Equipment Criticality Assessment & Risk Priority Number (RPN)
Prioritize maintenance based on failure consequence and probability
Click a cell in the matrix OR use the sliders to set Severity and Probability. The Risk Score = Severity × Probability. For FMECA analysis, include Detection to calculate the full RPN.
Insignificant - No impact on operations, minor inconvenience
Minor - Small production delay, minor repair costs
Moderate - Partial shutdown, moderate repair, minor injury risk
Major - Significant downtime, expensive repair, serious injury risk
Catastrophic - Complete shutdown, major damage, fatality risk
Rare - Unlikely during asset lifetime (<1% per year)
Unlikely - Could happen but not expected (1-10% per year)
Possible - Has happened before (10-25% per year)
Likely - Expected to happen (25-50% per year)
Almost Certain - Will happen without intervention (>50%)
Obvious - Failure preceded by clear warning signs
Easy - Detectable with basic inspection or monitoring
Moderate - Requires routine PdM (vibration, oil analysis)
Difficult - Requires advanced diagnostics or disassembly
Undetectable - No practical method to predict failure
